In 2015, an ongoing movement was born out of the potential for greater satisfaction with the quality of life in Independence County. The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce, Lyon College, and the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville spent time building curiosity among residents with a kick-off for something called "IMPACT." Curiosity led 1200 residents to complete a survey, survey completion led to 300 residents joining a committee of their choice, and joining a committee led to sharing of ideas, experiences, and honest opinions (we lost count of these).
From resident surveys and committee input, the IMPACT Independence County strategic plan, a broad county-wide shared vision, was developed. The action steps in the plan guide daily work carried out by engaged committee members and county-wide organizations with related missions, led by the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce on behalf of the IMPACT Steering Committee.
